Are you ready to plan your Route 66 journey? Here are 5 top tips on how to get ready for this road trip.
1. Map out your route
There are plenty of resources available to help you map out your route. My book combined with Google Maps are great starting point, but there are also a number of specialized Route 66 maps available online and in print. Decide how far you want to drive each day, and make sure to allow for plenty of stops along the way.
2. Do your research
As I mentioned before, because Route 66 is such an iconic road trip, there are tons of resources available to help you plan your trip. Read travel blogs (like this one!), pick up guidebooks at your local bookstore, and search online for tips and advice. The more you know about what to expect on your journey, the more enjoyable it will be.
You can also get a travel guide. This is a list of best travel guides for Route 66 journey: Route 66 – The 7 BEST Travel Guides – TOP 7 Guidebooks – Which one is best?
3. Allow yourself plenty of time
One of the best things about road-tripping is that it allows you to slow down and really enjoy the journey. Don’t try to cram too much into each day – give yourself plenty of time to enjoy the scenery, explore small towns, and take plenty of photos.
4. Pack wisely
When packing for your road trip, keep in mind that you’ll likely be doing a lot of driving. Be sure to pack comfortable clothes and shoes, and bring along any snacks and drinks you’ll need to stay fueled up. Also, be sure to pack any essentials you might need in case of an emergency (like a spare tire, jumper cables, and a first-aid kit).
5. Have fun!
Ultimately, the most important thing is to relax and have fun. Road tripping is all about the journey, so don’t stress out if things don’t go exactly according to plan. Go with the flow and enjoy the ride!
